Hollyboo’d? by Amanda

Is Hollywood responsible for turning ghost stories into FEAR stories or is that just the price we pay for some entertainment. These so called “true stories” of hauntings mirror possessions keeping the masses on the side of fear rather than telling them the truth. But would a boring old story of a couple knocks and a chilly spot in the hallway sell millions of tickets and spawn a million more in sequels? Green ooze and blood flowing from the walls is quite a bit more exciting than staring at the same eggshell surface just in case a shadow dare flicker. Is it better they pay attention even if it is through a misguided view?

While recently watching “The Conjuring” I found myself slightly dissecting the paranormal activities and understanding what probably happened compared to what did happen in the movie. Same thing with Paranormal shows that witness these great drooling creatures as the “victims” are flung room to room. If the fear isn’t there neither is the audience.

So does this feed into the disbelief of paranormal? I can say while I view these movies and “true stories” with plenty of grains’o’salt it is quite possible that the average viewer may look at these tales and either A. Believe that every single ghost is dead set on toying with us and eventually stealing our babies or rejoining the living by making a caravan out of our bodies OR B. Believe that WE paranormal investigator/enthusiasts believe that single ghost is dead set on toying with us and eventually stealing our babies or rejoining the living by making a caravan out of our bodies. This is kinda nuts, yet highly entertaining!

I also wonder if the new influx of ghostly inspired movies has inspired the hobby filmmaker or special effects wanna-be photographer into making their own documented “evidence”. Fish wire and mirrors for everyone!! Once again feeding the belief all evidence is faked and all mediums are frauds. What do you think? Is this our own FEAR CAGE? At least they are paying attention but to what end?

When it comes down to it; I love a good scare and a great ghost story so BRING IT ON HOLLYWOOD! I know whats real.
